Hi! I’m Laura, and welcome to my blog. This is where I ramble about my various writing projects and anything else that takes my fancy (usually Eurovision and the odd bit of politics). I mostly write YA urban fantasy, short stories and the occasional piece of creative non-fiction. In an ideal world, I’d quite like to evolve into a combination of Anthony Horowitz and John Hughes. I’m the official working-class gong-whacker for #UKYAChat and #SundayYA.
You can see information about my published works and works-in-progress here. Why not buy my short stories, available in Kindle and paperback, on Smashwords, and in Blackwell’s Edinburgh/The Fruitmarket Gallery, for a taste of what I write?
I’m currently looking for representation for my first novel, The Silent Storm. Here’s a blurb of sorts from a recent Twitter pitch…
I live in Edinburgh with a long-suffering husband and a growing pile of games consoles and musical instruments. When I’m not writing, I like dubious prog rock, weightlifting, baking and attempting to learn too many languages than is healthy. (Oh go on, add me on Duolingo, you know you want to.)
I’m also a freelance editor and proofreader; I’ve previously worked with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to test and refine educational material for schools, and writing copy for the Astro Pi project and the official Pi blog. I can also be spotted as an occasional roving reporter for The Sound Of The Crowd, writing about 80s gigs I’ve been to.
